Hi everyone,

We all know GT's are aggressive fish towards most other fish but as of today my male GT approx 3.5-4" has started "glass banging" when i get up close to the aquarium.

I have only seen a handful of videos where this actually happens with other GT's, but they all seem to be much old full sized adults. Also keep in mind he has no female or fry to protect so I am not sure what the attitude is all about.

You think this is normal? I believe he is a healthy fish, shows great energy and always hungry. What are your experiences?

I will have to try sometime soon to capture it on video if i can.

Thanks :)

My GT had never glass banged. He just eats everything and then some haha. I've heard that some cichlids hate certain colored shirts. I know it sounds silly but could you wear something he hates?

I thought it's my beard, I been growing it out more viking style (bigger). But I had my lovely girlfriend try it some time later and he did it with her too.

His colors really intensify too. Kinda cool to have him interact like that.

Some of mine do it when they are really hungry, and those ones seem to always seem to be hungry! I stick to my feeding regiment though and sometimes they get pissed off and start chasing off tank mates and begging at the glass when I am near.

Also what is your water temp at? The higher it is the more active/hungry they are going to be. Low 70s compared to high 70s-low 80s can have a big effect on their temperament.

Yes, this is normal. Cichlids are territorial creatures. My old GT showed the same behavior at 3-4". However, the second I put my hand in his tank he darted for cover.
