young green terror already glass banging, normal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it is completely normal. Look at it this way, if the fish is capable of breeding at such a small size and developing nuchal humps at that size, why wouldn't he be capable of developing an attitude at such a small size? that's how I look at it...

my GT is the opposite, so docile its not funny. When seen him in the shop and about 3.5inch he a bump on his head and was guarding a rock and flaring up at any fish that came to close, looking back he was prob breeding with a female in that shop tank. When i added him to my tank with an syn and a jd who were both a tiny bit larger then him he became the least dominant fish in the tank and his hump dissapeared with in a week...JD being the boss and the syn never liked the gt. 2 months later, jd is still the boss, syn still dosent really like the gt and Syn in now the biggest. Gt colours and still pretty plain, hump never came back and never seen an ounce of aggression, never once has he stood up for himself. I thought he was going to be a bit of a glassbaanger but he his quite timid.....be interested to see if my gt develops an attitude like yours with age?? a mate used to have a gt and just like yours he have attitude from a very young age alone with great colour and big hump, it never killed any other fish but was always the boss

GT is one of the few medium size CA/SA that can turn into glass banger if kept alone or without challenging tankmates. With large tankmates that can challenge him, GT will pay attention to the tankmakes, not the owner. Most tank busters don't bang glass if kept in a colony.

Here is a video of my former GT that attacked my hand. Its attack is engaging but not as vicious as Red Devil or other tank busters. GT is a good community fish and only mildly aggressive towards tankmates.

mine little guy makes that big one look calm. he only has done it once since the first time but with the same kind of excitement. even went after my girlfriends face again. he will swim from one end of the tank to the other to come get you. widens up his fins, flares the gills nice and big, get darker and more intense in his color. I really need to have a camera handy when he does it.

He has been packing on the size too, seems like a bit of growth spurt. I will have to update the grow out thread soon and get some new video and pics. I been doing it once a month around the 7th-10th of each month.

also noticed new eating behavior recently. He never used to come to the top of the water to feed, not even half way. Would wait for the food to drop to the ground and eat it that way. All of a sudden it seems like he is brave now. He will hit the food at the surface pretty hard (NLS flake seems to be his favorite for top water action. He even got water to pour out the side of the lid onto the flow it was so intense. like a large mouth bass hitting a popper outside of a weed line

Mind you he doesn't always hit the top of the water that hard but its becoming more of a regular thing.

Got to love it. Most rivulatus I've kept, and especially males males have been aggressive eaters. When they aren't it throws an alarm for me that something might be up or they're overfed.

Its for sure nice to see him excited for food and growing. I pay a lot of attention to his body (stomach area) to ensure i am not over feeding. his appetite has only been growing larger and larger.
