Young Oscar just turned MEAN. Please help.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Heres what to do: UPGRADE! Or add some dither fihs like tetras, babs, silverdollars, etc

omg..two oscars in a 55gal?! no wonder one is turning mean...upgrade now or rehome them. one 120gal tank is a tight fit for them both. what will you do if they start beating each other up? you will not be able to fit a divider in a 55gal with two oscars!!!

i have a 125gal and my oscars had to be separated.. they would fight constantly.. then after a year i put them together again... they did not like each other but they did not fight... but stress is stress and one grew sickly and i removed him... oscars are better single only.. unless huge tank and even then i have my doubts..

My mothers bf has two in a 55 and when they was first introduced into the tank they fought but now after a few months theyre perfectly fine. Sometimes fish just get fussy for a while and then cool off. When I was a kid I had the ultimate squish fest with 2 oscars and 2 jacks in a 55. Somehow they got along.

they are fine for now they are only 4 and just under 4" long i think a 55 if fine for 2 4" fish, he realizes he will eventually need a bigger tank we dont u saying stuff like this

Oscars are very territorial.. I agree with those who say two is too many in a 55.. even though they are small now..its only going to get worse. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I had an Oscar in my 125 who thought the whole tank was "his" and eventually had to remove him...

What I've found with Oscars is that once the aggression starts, it usually doesn't go away. Could it work itself out? Sure, but the odds aren't good. The other problem is that Oscars grow extremely fast, around an inch a month during this time in their lives. If I went through puberty locked in a one bedroom apartment, there would have been a bloodbath. :D In a few months that spacious looking tank is going to seem a lot smaller to both you and your fish.
