Tell me about your first real fish tank.
1 gallons with bettas do not count.
My first real fish tank after 1-2 dozen bettas in 1 gallons (I didn't know anything then) was a 5 gallon. Here was the stock.
1 dwarf gourami
3 pristella tetras
3 black phantom tetras
3 Serpae tetras, 1 was a long fin.

Funny story about the black phantoms, I had actually meant to get black skirt tetras but had forgotten the name so I told the guy getting the fish at petco a name that I thought was theirs. When he handed me the bag with the black phantoms I had a "wth" look on my face and wasn't sure what to do. I didn't say anything because I didn't want the fish to get stressed out again by being put back in the tank.

I will always remember that tank, I loved those fish. I wish I had known what I knew now, poor fish :(. But they gave me a good child hood memory and spurred my fish keeping to new heights :D.

My first was a 10 gallon. Stocked it with 1 marble Angel, 1 black Molly, 1 marble Molly and a metallic green male beta. Didn't know Mollies were male and female until the marble was REALLY pregnant and giving birth. Got a breeding basket to put her in and managed to save 1 baby from being eaten.

Regarding my beta, unfortunately I had one of those tanks with a mirror on the back. He was beautiful with those fins constantly flaring, but he ended up killing himself by bashing his head against the mirror attacking what he thought was another male. Poor baby.

Eventually I got another 10 with 1 male and 1 female Cambodian bettas, and actually got them to breed. But the heater died when the fry were developing their labyrinth and all died.

Now, after many trials and tribulations (and many successes) I have a 125 with plecos and Shubunkins. They're doing great and I have a great time having my morning coffee watching my "aquatic TV"

Probably my 75 gallon. Was my second tank after a 5 gallon and 2.5 years later it's still going strong.

You have a nice tank. But a fish in a coffee pot?! Maybe a beta with a teeny tiny sponge filter and tiny air stone. (And at least a 12 cup pot if they make one). Beats my 20 gallon in a gutted old TV cabinet. LOL

My signature is from a joke about people keeping large cichlids in disproportionately small tanks :)

A dovi in a coffee pot? Please, that's so much space. It starts getting a bit cramped when you put a beluga whale in there.

First real tank was a thirty gallon that my girlfriend bought me years ago.It was one of those tank, stand and hood combos with the compressed wood cabinet stand.

So many of us begin with those cheap fake wood stands. Good easy money for the companies making them until we wise up and make our own then whoever sells us the lumber gets our money :D.

Hey, at least it didn't have bright pink gravel, a spongebob figure, and a little "no fishing" ornament.
