Your 1st real tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So many of us begin with those cheap fake wood stands. Good easy money for the companies making them until we wise up and make our own then whoever sells us the lumber gets our money :D.
Yep but those stands aren't bad for sub 100 gallon tanks.Their main drawback seems to be warpage if they get wet too much.I still have that combo and the floor inside of it is sunken in a little.
I have dabbled a bit in building,I made a two tier stand for my 75 gallon tanks.

I had one of those stands for a 29 gallon once. When I finally took the tank down, upgraded tank and stand, I realized the back of the stand was warping so bad that it was a wonder that it hadn't collapsed. I took it outside and kicked it til it fell apart .

Wish I could have multiple tanks but being 14 I only have the 125 as my parents won’t let me get anymore after changing so many tanks before
A 125 is pretty good! I'm working on smaller projects now so I enjoy the small tanks

I wish I could get a tank as big as that but there's only 3 things stopping me
1. Finding more then 4 feet of open space I can use. It's there, I just can't use it.....
2. The price jumps from $55 to $200 from a new 55 to a new 75 for me. A 180 is around $800 new for me so there's that.... Not enough fish keepers around me to find "large" used tanks.
3. Apartments tend to have a certain max # of gallons you can have. I'd have a hard time finding one that would allow a 125 I think even if I'm on the bottom floor.

I had a 20 gallon with a shubunkin goldfish, that my dad had kept since I was little, when I got interested in the hobby myself at probably 10 years old. I remember I had a few small tanks with bettas, etc. Then I was about 12-13 my interest really took off. Gave the shubunkin away and grew out a severum in the 20 if I remember correctly. Had him in there for a bit too long, gota job at 14 and with some parental help bought a 90 gallon for the severum. Took in a few rescue fish like a big Oscar from the pet store I worked at. I guess the 90 was my first "real" tank.

I was very worried about the weight on the floor as well but it worked out fine, the space I’ve got I could of had a 180 but I’m glad I got the 125 as it’s cheaper to run, less maintenance and has the same length

It's only a bit wider and shouldn't have costed much more.
