Your 1st real tank.

I never made my age very public. I dropped a clue here and there but never said directly what it was. Did say I was a minor a few times. I did this because I wanted people to see me for my knowledge and not my age. Once people find out you're young people tend to view what they say in a "he probably has no idea what he's talking about" view.
Since I've successfully had at least one person not be able to tell my age through my posts, you, I will make my age public. I am 17 lol. Also yes, I do talk a lot. It's rather easy when they're so many good people here and so many questions and discussions to talk about :D.
If you know what you're on about then you'll be accepted. I joined as a mostly clueless 14 Y/O but I think nowadays I have at least some credibility.

You have gotten a thing about knifefish stickied so I'd say you have some credibility at least lol. Hoping to acquire and breed some wallace's shoehead catfish and write up a paper about it then post it here.

If you have good and thorough info then you will be. Good luck with your project! A knife of mine has shown an ovipositor but haven't seen any breeding behaviour thus far.

Great thread fishhead0103666 fishhead0103666 , I didn’t realize you and Bertie07 Bertie07 were so young lol.

My first tank was roughly about 18-20 years ago (starting to feel old now). It was a 20 g that a family friend gave to me with some odds and ends to get started. At first I wasn’t allowed to even get fish so I started with a Fw crab. Then the crab needed a friend so we bought 3 neon tetras because my mom thought they looked cool. I originally wanted fish so I could have piranhas but the lfs people said not to start with them but to work my way up from easier to care for fish like community. So I bought a 10 g with swordtails, mollies, red tail shark and some dwarf frogs. After a few weeks I had 3 tanks and 1 had a red bellied piranha because lfs said 20g min for each rb. As I got bored with the fish I had I slowly started to see which of the fish I could feed to the p, including the frog.

Eventually I came home one day from school and found that the original 20 g had cracked and leaked out all but about a cm of water in my room (upstairs). At the time I collected marvel masterpiece cards and had a huge collection of the foils so it was over $1000 worth of cards that were in the dresser the fish tank was on. I was pretty devastated and stopped collecting the cards but kept going with fish but I learned a very important lesson to ensure your tank is completely level to avoid cracks and strains. I think there was a solo crayfish in that tank at the time and it survived in a small puddle in the gravel.
I agree with fishhead0103666 fishhead0103666 , I don’t really like to say my age to much as being so young many people don’t respect my opinion and think i don’t know what I’m talking about

when i was little my father always used bait fish for ice fishing. After keeping them alive through the summer months instead of letting them die, i got hooked, and always had small tanks after that. Then when joining mfk, thats when the big tanks and fish started.

The struggle is real. I work in construction and have been in charge of large commercial sites for almost 10 years now. I often have to lead men who have kids older than me. It can be hard attaining respect from crusty old men. Especially when you have a positional authority above them(the lowest form of leadership) you really have to know what you are doing, have a plan, and a few back up plans because nothing ever goes the way you plan. Also I still have a baby face so I still look fairly young, I don’t have much facial hair, and even now in my 30’s I still am asked for my id in pubs and whatnot. So I hear ya young folks.

In high school I had a 20g with several cardinal and other tetras as well as one big aquatic plant (don't remember the type). It had a little HOB filter that I never changed the cartridges for. Those fish all lived for 3 years with no maintenance of any kind - no water changes, no filter cartridge changes, no nothing. Water was always crystal clear. Never had an algae problem. I credit most of it to the plant. I gave the fish away when I went off to college.

Can't remember if I had the saltwater tank or the turtle setup first, anyway the saltwater tank was 55 gallons, and the turtle tank was 100, as a kid at first my father did the water changes, then as I got older I did the work.

my first real tank is a 200 gallon tank given to me by my dad when I was in 3rd grade. I had 1 albino common pleco, a pair of red telescope goldfish, a pair of black moor/black telescope goldfish, a bunch of guppies that started out from a few pair and a bunch of sword tail mollies that started out with 1 pair.
