i was wondering, is it considered wild caught if you caught a species of fish that was introduced into the waters many years ago and there is a sustaining population of that species in the waters today?

for me anything caught in it's natural habitat where it is a native is wild caught. i don't consider introduce species as wild caught coz most might have been captive bred and then just released somewhere.

it's living in the wild and not bred in home aquaria? or even at a fish farm? then i would consider it wild caught. but if i were to sell to someone i would tell them where i caught it.

The deffinition of Wild Caught to me is a fish thats genetic lineage can be traced back generations to it's native origin.

But.. as pointed out an introduced species thats been there for awhile is technically wild caught...

Agreed, the key phrase there being "born" in the wild.

Wild Caught, to me, is exactly that, a fish that was pulled out of a river and not a tank. Then again, I don't desire WC over CB. I'll take a CB fish anyday of the week because to me, fish is fish.

I don't think it matters if it lives there sucessfully for any period of time or not. If its born in the wild and you catch it and put it in your tank you have a wild caught fish.

True, but it just would make me feel like I had a "wild" fish, to tame and whatnot. :)
