Similar to this photo, a. vulgaris can live five years. Seems long for something that produces hundreds and hundreds of offspring at a time.

For most siluridae, three years is usually the time it takes to reach a decent size. But by its fourth year, the tadpole madtom is on its way out or dead already! To its credit, though, it does burn the wick at both ends. If you ever seen one spaz out for food, you'll understand.

So what are some of your favorite lifespans that others might not know?

EDIT: Should this be in the Lounge or is this okay here with a bug or two thrown in?

i think i ws most shocked with my snapping turtle. i figure he would live a while. but over 40 years in captivity. can you say "life long companion" lol

also i had a african clawed frog that was over 15 years old. im sure he would have lived a while longer as he was very healthy and happy. he actually got into it with one of his tank mates and i had to move him. sadly my monster 7 inch crayfish came out of his cave and killed him. it didnt take long either. out of anger and frustration i put the crayfish in with my snapper and took the frog outside to bury it. we all know how that ended for the crayfish. but my snapper was a happy camper for sure!

Bump for what ought to be a really interesting thread if you'll post your findings in it.

i love toads! you can be included too lol. i have a HUGE toad that lives in my back yard. my dog (pom/ toy eskimo mix) will climb halfway up a tree to get a squirrel but she wont go near the thing. all she does is bark her head off at him. hes like 4 inches tall and 5 or 6 inches across. very fat. hes probably pretty old.

here is some pics of the toad that lives here. i grabbed him one day because i was bored and took some pics because my brother never saw him when he came over and didnt believe me. hes pretty cool. i fed him some crickets

I used to catch something like that is southern california around drains and ponds. More on the red and green spectrum, but a lot like that. Never thought about how old they might get. Fun! Nice pics, too.
