This is a cool post, but in addition to, how about what was the first tank that you set up independantly?
A 10 gallon :headbang2

For myself it would be a 10 gallon convict tank. Age 9. Still have some desindants.(wrong spelling)lol

60 litre community, bala sharks and mixed small gourami, Life was so much simpler back the.

Now a 400 litre GG tank with a GG that seemingly has take over my life, currently planning to extend the house for an upgrade. 240 litre housing 2 oscars, and a baby 125 litre pleco tank, then there is the small matter of the hand dug 18000 litre koi pond

lol.

oddly enough my first set up was a 55g. i was about 12, and let me tell you, at 12 years old, a 55 is frickin HUUUUUUUUUUUGE!
i picked it up at some garage sale for like 10 bucks. it was just sitting on the side of some guys house with 2 cruddy old white ugf trays sitting in the bottom, and i told my dad i wanted it, so he told me to go ask the old man if it was for sale. after a little bargaining for what was essentially "junk" on the side of his house, it came home with me for the low low price of $10 (all the money i had in my pocket. thats how i got him. lol)
picked up a few small air pumps, some air line and stones, and some ridiculous bubble decor (i think i had a pirates chest and a scuba steve.) and if i remember correctly, that was the end of my filtration. not nearly enough for a 55, now that i think about it. lol. es la vida.
every time we went to the mall id hit the pet store for some $1 or less fish. eventually i had a small school of neon tetras, some gouramis, and other small guppy type fish. a small loach thing that lived in the ugf, and a pleco.

... and thats the story of my life. lol

20gal long tank, guppies and cory cats, and an algae eater. That was around 1975. Now, we have many. 2-75gal, 125g, 150g, 3-55g, 42g hex, 90g, and 60g.

55 gallon with an under gravel filter and two red eared sliders. First aquarium though was the same 55 with an undergravel filter and a fluval 304 and a ton of random cichlids that somehow survived my ridiculous stocking for atleast 5 years til I gave them away to start a saltwater tank

I won a goldfish at a fair. I put him into a maybe 2 gallon jar and had him for a good year until I decided to get him a buddy. I added his new buddy into the tank and both fish were dead by the end of the week. I know have 12 tanks running with the largest being a 250 and smallest a 20 long. I have a large variety of fish but mainly cichlids.

a 10G with a peacock eel, a red-tailed black shark, and an irridescent shark... I was like 13. :D
