Your first tank...?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
when I was 8 yrs old, I got a 20 gallon for my birthday and stocked it with a few goldfish, a pleco, and an ID shark. Took me some time to really learn about proper fishkeeping, but having the tank and watching the fish is what hooked me on this hobby.

I was five and had a betta in a bowl. I remember my mom had like a 20 gallon with sword tails and some tetras. I was never allowed to feed those guys lol.

65g with an ID shark when i was 10, he lived until i was 22. He was still going strong until i went on vacation for spring break and he jumped out the tank and my mom was to scared to pick him up and put him back in the tank. 12 years old isnt so bad, i just found out recently how big he was suppose to get. He was about a 18" to 20" when he died. I feel bad now:( thanks for bring up the bad memories of how bad of a fish keeper i was lol

My first tank was a 10 gallon when i was 11 years old, and you wont believe the load i had in it.
-8 tiger barbs
-1 green severum
-1 gold severum
-1 Festivum
-1 blood parrot

Its quite amazing they survived a whole year until i got my first 55.

15 gallon tank 15 years ago with two climbing perch i caught from fishing in a nearby rice paddy.

5 gallon:

2 Julie corys (lived for 7 years!)
5 neon tetras

20gal long

1 fire mouth
1 huge venatus
1 rosy barb ( still have today )
and had a rtc in there for a while to

10 gallon tank, no heater, box filter, 10 feeders. The LFS guy wasn't all that great. Later I learned about over stocking, cycling and de-chlor. Much to my personal shame I was 14 at the time. I try not to jump on nubbies as I won't forget being one myself. Oddly enough one of the goldfish made it to 8" and I sold him to the LFS.
