foods cheap in bulk
most of the tanks were free leakers resealed by me.
Stocking comes from my obsession with fish auctions and breeding.
sales of fry more than covers the food and new fish purchases.
and I genuinely enjoy waterchange day.;)
its a hobby if I wanted it to be easier id just watch tv.

I'm the same way. I love free/cheap leaker tanks! I got a 46 gallon bow front for $15!

Hey no problem gomez..you'd have to love it to do that much....I'm just not one to do things like that..My whole thing is to have all that AND be easy to maintain ...for cheap too

No offense taken, just saying I ain't rich, got more time than money.

Until enlightenment I will chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, I will chop wood and carry water. ;)

I do NOT enjoy water changes and tank cleaning; I always have better things to do.

To minimize time and effort, I installed a hot/cold faucet near my tanks in the basement. I connected two large water holding trash cans that hold enough water to change 50% of my 150G on one day and 50% each of two 75G tanks on another day.

The pump and 3/4" ID tubing moves the water fast. The pump is submerged in one trash can and never needs priming as I switch from draining to filling. I have two drain hoses. One is attached to a 24" vacuum and the other loops over the tank to help speed up the drain cycle.

The water drains into a sump pump pit and the water is pumped out to a buried 50' pipe that drains the old water into a creek. The creek has a ton of fish. I spend more money feeding my outdoor fish than my aquariums.

Is that a pond or a creek?...not too sure about waste water from the tank going into the natural run-off

I'm just not too cool with a priceless natural habitat being polluted/diluted with any amount of waste that can easily be put in the drain...
This creek gets plenty of bad stuff dumped into it. Whenever it rains, all the oil and antifreeze is washed off the roads up stream and flows into the creek. I can see the oily film on the surface. In the winter time, the road salt and the sidewalk deicing chemicals wash into it as well. In the fall, the tree leaves clog the creek and the decaying leaves turns the water almost black. It's amazing the fish survive.

Even scarier is all this stuff flows into a large river a few miles away, and our water company uses that water for our area. Add in the foul smelling "treated" water from the 12 waste treatment plants up river from our town and it's amazing us humans survive.

It's actually illegal to dispose of any type of waste water into natural water bodies here in PA, unless you have a permit/license. I totally agree with your comment about whatever else is going in there though... I guess it's all in how you look at it. Do you contribute and say one more won't hurt... or do you say at least it's one less? I have no opinion either way... just blabbing :)
