YOUR input on cost of CB Marbles

That MM above is amazing & I like more then the blacks but thats me.
Being in the fishy business sometimes things are based on supply & demand. What is hot is what nobody gots :)
Rays are not in the mainstream, yet. I'm getting into them for personal & eventually to make a profit down the road but I want to learn at lot more! When I go back collecting in SA I plan on focusing my exploring on rays and their habit, diet etc..
Back to S&D,
Rays are growing in the hobby as can be seen on this site/thread. The more breeding is done & mastered I think the price will come down but stay at a certain price point being the cost to maintain them either by commercial or even a hobbyist. There will be some that demand a priemum because of quality and looks alone. But not everyone can properly house rays or at least for the long term. I worry in the future with all the common motoros that are available in huge numbers & seem to produce liters there maybe to many out there & not enough big tanks for them. When I was in Peru at a exporters they had thousands at 4-6" that were all sold & heading to Japan.
Agree with many above.

ok, heres my latest born male..born 3/10/11..a male to a v.nice male/average female..i am keeping this one just to see what happens with him. i have seen other pups i have bred and wish i could have kept them all..what would you value him on his potential? (or is he not as nice as I think he iS?) BE HONEST, I CAN TAKE IT!:D

i think the main problem with trying to get higher price tags on cb marble pups is that there are only a handful of true marble "collectors" in the usa willing to pay more money to get a stunning ray for their collection

look at the marbles that superlaz just brought in. all of the experienced marble keepers scooped up the stunners because they you guys knew wht u were looking at.

i think that majority of marble keepers are still fairly new to rays and looking for the cheapest marble they can find because they still dont rely know wht they are looking at quality wise. 250 for a wild marble is always going to appeal more then a 350 dollar marble to a guy that is just looking for a marble

WOW i like him alot:drool::drool:

I'd give you my opinion but I think it's tainted. :(

I'd give significantly more for CB, but I've also had horrid luck with wild caught. CBs are much easier as you dump them in the tank and done. WCs need observation, isolation, weaning, and you still have to cross your fingers when adding them to others, especially if they are aggressive CBs.

I think other than demand & supply, it is also depending on locality. Over here in Asia.not many ppl willing to pay top dollars for a marble no matter how nice it is..as to most ray keepers..it is still a motoro and no "class" compare to the blacks...

It should be if the going rate was almost double the top dollar you'd pay.... ;)

Different strokes for different folks. Some like big dots, some like lots of "sharpie". :)

So Al, outta these two then which is your pick ???

Personally, I like the 2nd one if the marbling stays. If it connects that to me would be nice as they come.

They're both very nice. I'd definetly buy those for "$250-300"

The problem I see with Marbles is the majority of them turn ugly when mature. I bought a nice mature male marble and even that didn't stop it from getting darker and the pattern fading. I decided to sell it as it was too hard on the females when he tried to breed with them. It didn't sell for a long time and I had to sit on it for 3 months and when it sold I only got half the price I paid for it.

IMO Mature marble ray parents(3yrs plus) that have kept their pattern would be a good selling point for the pups as it would be a good indicator that they would keep their marbled pattern. Nothing is more disappointing then buying a nice marble just to see it fade away. This is what happened to the male I had...

somehow Al I knew you were gonna say that ;). She is a beauty though so I don't blame you. Actually looks a lot better now. $300 is about what their fetching given the 5-6" size although I personally think they could get a weeeeeee bit more :D
