I have felt like my job lately has been volunteer emergency fish vet. Mostly it's the time spent doing extra water changes* and the driving that gets me. Sometimes I've been driving back and forth as much as three times a day. Then I was up late trying to get my then sick fish to eat since if he didn't eat, the food needed to be removed. This meant late night with emergency fish care. and caused me to oversleep so it was also using my morning indirectly. After my sick fish recovered, he needs a lot of TLC and special feeding as the mystery sickness got him quite thin. Then there were the long searches on the internet trying to find information to solve the mysterious aquatic problems. Sometimes there just wasn't any time left in the day.
* This takes extra time at my parents house as the hot water doens't work in the basement where the two boarded fish tanks are. For normal maintanence, I set aside the afternoon to do the water changes. You can see how driving there every day and spending the afternoon there doing extra water changes for sick and injured fish can become very time consuming. Also the sick tank is on the floor so the python does not work with it and it needed to be changed daily by bucket.
And some people wonder why I want to put a UV sterlizer on that tank.
