Some of the ones around here have a 24-48 hour policy. Never had to use it because I select carefully, acclimate, and make sure the tank is ready to go. I always take my time and select the fish I want. Usually I ask to scoop my own fish. If they say no... well then they will be there for a while. lol. There is a new petco in my area and they would't allow me to scoop my own fish. I was picking out some cherry barbs for my brother's new tank (Normally I refuse to buy fish from big box stores, but they just got a new fish specialist that actually knew what she was doing and they looked great. That and they were on sale for 1$ each). The guy that ended up helping me became very irritated at how long we took and out indecisivness. We would pick one out and he would attempt to catch it and loose it. We tried to keep an eye on the fish we selected but he got in the way and we would loose sight. LMAO.
I always though about the idea that if one of your fish were to die and they had the same variety in stock... You could actually just buy the same fish and go back there with your dead fish a day later and end up with two fish or even your money back. Never did it though. The fish I buy always do good and live long lives (knock on wood). It would also hurt my concience.
