Your Nitrate levels?

I tested my tank this morning, I have finally gotten my tank down to 80 which beats over 200 where it was at previously. My last water change was a 1/3 change and I used fresh rainwater (it's been raining the past few days - I stuck buckets and containers out to catch the water and used that to get away from the crap in our tapwater) Another benefit I noticed with the rainwater is the water in the tank is not quite as hard - KH went from 240 to 180 and GH went from 180 to 120 with the one water change (our tap water is extremely hard here) my Nitrite is also no 0 instead of .5.

I'll give it another few days and will do another water change to see if I can get it any lower. It's taken me a week with water changes every second day to get it where it is at now. The fish are probably as annoyed at the process as I am.
Next water change will be more rainwater.

Try having stingrays, mine are 100-150 average. 140 time for a water change.

Huh? I always thought rays belong to the group that is more sensitive to water parameters including high nitrates. You keep rays and have your nitrates around 100-150?

And here I was not getting a ray because my pond is around 40ppm

Mine never goes over 40ppm. My invert tank ranges around 10-20 ppm. But my cihclid tank never goes over 40 ppm. I dont really stress out about it though. I think people over react a little on nitrates.
