Two-spot gouramis are one variant of the Trichogaster trichopterus, other variants are gold, opaline, blue, and three spots, all the same species, they max out at about 6". I like them, they are usually fairly mellow but sometimes you get a bad actor. They are very hardy and can be kept with other gouramis like perls and pygmy flames, also favorites of mine, a small group of giant danios would make a nice active contrast fish as would 3-4 congo tetras. this pic is from Miguel Pais and is a nice example of the 2 spot varient.

Nice pic, too. How would they get along with a single severus? Just curious about tankmates for heros severus. Mine is bored with his catfish.

I have heard that the severus can be a bit belligerent and tends to nip filamantous fins so gouramis might not be a good mix with one. I don't know for sure though, I have never kept one.

I never kept one before either because they remind me of my Aunt (long story). This one was given to us free under the condition that we "Leave the store and never come back."

mine did the same thing guess he dun like his own kind, I kept an eel with it and some tetras and he didnt bother them, but then again they were all bigger then him.

The more different in markings the gouramis are the less likely they are to fight.
