The point is that there is no possible environment for a private keeper to keep them
Nope, you still do not know every keeper. I can recall that there is at least 1 keeper in Asia that has a 100k+ tank and I believe he has a bull shark in it. Someone has a bull shark or at least had, there’s pictures on here somewhere.

Thankfully, I've searched up bumblebee grouper here and it doesn't seem that many people actually keep them.
Nope, people do keep them here, they just don’t advertise it because they sometimes get harassed by people for it. Our main vendor brings them in regularly still if I recall correctly.

1. I highly doubt he was successful in doing so (kept it for more than a year and it approached > 80% of wild size)
2. Even if it has happened, a bull shark can somewhat live in freshwater so the guy didn't have to worry about maintaining salinity.

Just cause a vendor brings it in doesn't mean that people have successfully kept it. It just means people are willing to buy it. I highly doubt the bumblebee groupers are anywhere near adult size.

Just cause someone kept it doesn't really mean much. The burden of proof lies in proving that they were kept successfully :)

The freshwater hobby experts don’t seem to have much of a platform on YouTube etc. only the idiots as mentioned above, even King of DIY is more of a journal than information. I find saltwater has a lot more experts as the hobby is a little more challenging and most of the people in the fish hobby don’t bother.. I like bulk reef supply for good saltwater info but I wish there were more popular freshwater youtubers that stuck to the fundamentals and daily problems you’d come across.

Jim cumming has a nice youtube channel that I found informative. Ditto for Wild fish tanks and the art of water.

Thanks been looking for some decent channels lately. Only one can deal so much with “never put an arowana with a tiger fish” like I didn’t know what 2+2 was ?. It is frustrating to see some people so popular when you know half the info is wrong or doesn’t apply. Then you realize normal people don’t love putting themselves on the internet for the world to see.. so you get the outcasts lol

Well it certainly has been a lovely discussion we’ve had however we’ve taken this thread off topic a bit so I will end it here. Should you wish to continue it then do feel free to send me a private message and we can discuss it further.

Yes, also things like people putting silver arowanas and fire eels into 125’s and 75’s and insisting they’re ok, I’ve seen plenty of that.

Honestly for normal community fish its not too bad. There's plenty of good keepers, its when you get to the larger fish that there are more bad eggs so to speak.

Lol don't be putting a clam in with a puffer or your in for a bad time man. That puffer gonna be all torn up hahaha.

Ik what ya mean man lol some channels it's like a no brainier that ya shouldn't do what they tell ya not to do. Like goldfish with Oscars, ofcourse you shouldn't keep a coldwater carp with a warm water predator. Not only do they need totally different parameters but the Oscar would probably just kill the goldfish just for fun.
