If I can help it, Table Salt. I don't like using ANY medication unless Salt won't work.....but sometimes you have to.

thanks all,, salt and heat is always the first option,, i was just wandering what was kept as a back up cause sometimes salt just doesnt work.

Just curious are majority of you guys using meds as preventative when getting new fish? I never had an issue even from imports but I quarantine them for weeks.

Even with stringy poo which my flowerhorn gets from time to time I use Epsom salt or leave it alone. I tend to fast them for two or three days and it goes away for a while. The majority of my sickness would be stringy poo but common in flowerhorns don't know why. Also I observed its the ones that eat a lot and I mean eat like 4-5 pellets in almost one gulp lol

I treat any fish bought at a LFS with paraguard generally. covers most parasite/fungal issues present with new fish.

Every new fish I get, gets a bath in MB and prazi in tank water after a drip acclamation. That's just the way I do it. I generally don't use meds and agree clean water prevents most issues, however fish like us sometimes get sick or come in with something and knowing what to use, how to use it and when and where to use it is important.

If I could keep one one med I would always have methylene blue on hand.
