Hello, I am setting up a 162 gallon fish tank for stingrays, and as you all know, stingrays need real good filtration. I do plan on upgrading tanks eventually and I would want to keep the filter that I use for this tank for my next tank. I have been looking into the new fluval fx5 for this tank. What do you all think of this filter? Would anybody who owns one like to help me out and give a little review so that I make the right purchase. Thanks

good quality overall, well built alota tunrover on most applications. i load mine with ceramic rings and such for great bio filtration.

It's a great filter. The only two complaints I have are one is the two minutes auto shut off/on. It will startle you out of the blue and you will jump up to think if something is wrong with your filter. The second thing is the clips for the intake/outtake tubes that they do not fit all tanks, so do your research.

best bang for your buck! easy to clean and operate! realiable and safe!

I had a problem with this, the clips did not fit my tank. They are kinda balancing there and I'm not sure how stable they are. Was real nervous for a few days, but everything seems ok. I don't like the tubes at all as a matter of fact, would much prefer the normal more rigid pipes and a spray bar, but that's not a fault really, just a personal preference

from what i' ve read its a great filter for mechanical, a little less good biological.. if money is not an issue i would go eheim 2262 since it holds more media and seems to be better at bio too.

:iagree:

Great mechanical filter, my baskets are filled with glass and ceramic noodles in an attempt to improve it's bio function. Try monster pets on ebay

If you shop around you can almost buy 2 for the price of one Eheim 2262:headbang2

good filter if filled with bio in all 3 baskets and i run 3 filters and runs aprox 600gph once full.
i also had a problem with one and hagen sent a new pump within 3 working days so decent custer service too.
