Thanks guys, I didn't know you could do that with cichlids, so it kinda shocked me.
I have about 20+ baby (less then inch) convict cichlids. I don't want to do this to them though. I'd rather just have a tank for them and then have a community tank. I'm only keeping two out of the group, a bonded pair. I'll just sell the hatchlings once they become free swimmers and then start all over again. lol

This is what people do with only africans to reduce aggression. It's normal. But you can't do that with centrals. It's different. But ya, he is a bit overstocked I think, he could loose a few.

Sure you can do it with centrals. I used to keep a 180g with quite the mix of SA/CA cichlids in it. Lots of work though.

Haha i've done this with CA cichlids. Worked great, even with stuff 2-11''. It's pretty much a staple in the African hobby, but I wouldn't call it "overstocking" if you have a WC schedule and filtration to match :)

How do you get them to sing like that?

All in all, those fish should be fine if he keeps up with water changes (easier said than done)

I thought I was trippin when I read that ahahaha

Looks like there is plenty of hiding places for the different kinds of offspring.

This is how these fish live in the wild, so as long as filtration is sufficient then it is not a problem with Africans. SA/CA cichlids are a different story but if it works for someone without problems and the fish remain healthy then I have to respect that.

Most of the JDMs have top notch filtration though
