Close look at the yoyo loach shows that it has two sharp bones sticking out (one on each side, close to his mouth).
They're bifid spines. All botiine loaches have them as a defense mechanism when they involve themselves in skirmishes. There have been many cases of predators such as arowanas killed in the process after swallowing loaches, most prominently the clown loaches.

and yes i would add salt if it were my ray...

The sub-ocular spines are a killer if you have a fish that will try to eat a botiine loach. Never keep a loach that can possibly be swallowed by it's tankmates.

What can I say? I was ignorant, I do not even know that those loaches has very sharp bifid spine, never paid attention to it. I have this loach for at least 4 years with discuss when my tank was for planted tank with discuss. I get bored of discuss (not much movement) and tired of clean up and trim plants, and after I find out there is such thing as freshwater stingray. That is it. I am hooked. I bought the ray and with time the ray cleared out the plant as it grows up. So the loach is just part of the its tankmate until yesterday.
Anyway, the ray is still resting . I try both MP and earthworm, but Ii does not have much interest in food for now. Only time can tell whether it can make it or now. I just leave it alone without adding any salt. I do not believe much in salt or antibiotics anyway. If it is time for it to go, then that is it.

I hope it works out for you. I think treatment is not a major factor at this point, it's getting the ray eating again. Is the ray a juvenile or skinny?

Ahh the sub-ocular spines. By the way Ewurm, I love the tag under you name. Loacho Cinco:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:. Too funny!

The ray is a little older than one year, well-fed with the 12 inch disks. I think it can go without food for at least 2 weeks without any problem.

Yummy!

Very interesting, never knew loaches had spines! I guess because I have never kept them. Not much you can do in a situation like that, leave the loach in and they both die or try to remove the loach and hope ray lives. Good luck especially since it is a flower. They stress easily.

I was out of town for the weekend. When I get back, the ray passed away....That's life. It is time to move on.
