Another possibility to consider is perhaps the source for the lfs froze a dead mouse that was a bit "Too far gone". I don't care who you buy them from-no way they are throwing out dead mice! They are sticking 'em in the freezer.:WHOA:

Ugh, that's so gross...wouldn't surprise me either...

I'm with you on the f/t thing being inconvenient...I feed my whole collection live food...its safe as long as it is properly monitored and the animals are conditioned to take them...the haters and naysayers just show their inexperience with feeding live when they start to knock it down. I've done it all over the years...live...f/t...p/k...live is safe when done properly, and I stress the word, PROPERLY. If you want to know what improperly is, just go to youtube and watch all the feeding videos on there ;)

I'm surprised to hear you say that. I thought for sure you were a proponent for frozen/thawed.
I totally agree; feeding live is perfectly ok provided common sense is applied. I've never had a snake suffer a rat/mouse bite in all my years keeping snakes. Feeding frozen is probably easier/more practical when keeping a large collection though.

It depends I suppose. For me frozen mice over the net are the easiest way at the moment. Order 30-50 every now and again, they sit in the freezer... job done... I don't have to waste time buying food at a pet shop (not that they sell live food for feeding purposes and would have to breed your own), and I don't have to keep another live animal. The only reason I would is when the collection is big enough to make it more cost effiecient to breed your own, and even then, I think I'd pre kill them.

i am like davo that i got enough to do all dang day and dont want to stand in petco for ever just to buy one rat and one mouse every dang week or 2.Frozen stock in the freezer works for me.The ppl you call haters i dont know about but i have usualy fed my 5 foot boa live rats but i did that once with a ball and as soon as the snake grabed its butt the rats head was free to start chewing on my snakes neck. Now you got an open injury and risk of infection.I still feed it live now and then but i promise things do happen.I dont hate either way but their is a little risk with live.If you talk of knocking the rats out first or whatever i did that to but you know what,i guess the time came when i just saw things diferent and that bothers me now.Anyways, good luck next time, sorry it got gross, lol.

I just buy a bunch of live ones, whack them and toss them in the freezer, if I'm worried they will start to thaw by the time I get home.
