Anyone keep these in the past, or present?

They are said to only reach a foot. Is this true?

I have an opportunity to get some 3 inch babies. How rare are they?

INFO PLEASE! I was told they are extremely aggressive!

miles, dangerous Dan, Oddball or Davo probably would have info about the zebra.. also look through old posts here.. theres some info on zebra knives..wish you had some pics.. because they may not even be zebras.. these knives are rare and alot of the LFS label them zebra's or tigre knife.. because they do not know all the other ones..

These are Gymnotus pedanopterus - the zebra knifefish as far as I can tell.

i found one post of pics Miles put up ..post #17 in various knife fish pictures thread.. he does not say what they are but maybe you will id them as the same as the zebra you mention.. i will look around later for more too.. breaking for dinner.. :D

Do those knives look like this? They said the zebra knife fish is an incredible beautiful rare species of knife fish, not much is known about this striking species ..the few that are imported seem to be hardy and easy to keep..the behavior of their close relative gymnotus Carapo is that they are very aggressive fish so this species should probably be kept singly.

They DO look like that, and they were all saying they are extremely aggressive, and only reach a foot. Sounds like an AWESOME project for me....

they get 50cm long according to my atlas..wow they are gorgeous.. how much are they?? Definitly would be awesome to own them.. mine that is rare is non aggressive..delicate and very small mouth.. tiny little baby guppies swim right into his face ..nothing.. so i would think it would be fun to own a more aggressive type just so you know they are eating ..lol

First of all, are they really that rare? And that is a very nice adult size - so we're looking at probably 1 1/2 feet in the aquarium.
As for price, I just e-mailed the store asking about purchasing some. They wanted $20 each. They are 3 inches.

That is a great deal.. they are rare and they are beautiful.. i do not know how they would be getting along together.. i wish oddball or one of those guys would tell you more.. may or may not be a problem with more then one.. wow i wish i would see them..well if you get them be sure to let me see some pics ..i certainly do not want to talk you into it.. but i believe they are rare and probably the prettiest of that species of knife... 3 inches how sweet,

Yes, they are SWEET! Gorgeous, and cute to boot. There were a few in the tank - they were hiding from each other, so I figure that should work ok... I'll keep you updated!
