Zebra knives

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
with so many different knives, i'd be careful, theres probably quite a few similar looking sp. If you like them, it doesn't matter, but I wouldn't get them on rarity alone.Great looking fish though.

Davo - there's really only two (I think) that have the characteristics of Gymnotus pedanopterus. They do not have the long tail filament or anything- just short and stocky. What else could they be?

Yes, they are SWEET! Gorgeous, and cute to boot. There were a few in the tank - they were hiding from each other, so I figure that should work ok... I'll keep you updated!

thanks i will definitly be interested in hearing all about them and seeing pics as they grow.:D

Whoa, slow down. I've gotta get them first ;) LOL

That is, if I do...

lol well if you're sure you're sure. It's just i've made that mistake before lol. If they are banded exactly like that, then i can't think of anything else, but i can think of a few striped knifefish.

Yeah - I was cruising those pictures on google - but their bands are slightly narrower (white ones) but they are only 3 inches. They do look most like G. pan.... I guess I'll have to take a really close look - but then again, ALL of those look-alikes are equally rare, no?

I think a lot of knifefish are more just rare in the hobby, as opposed to expensive. There was a thread on here that attempted to put all pictures of different knifefish on here. Should be somewhere in the knifefish forum... its about a year old, can't remember how complete it was in the end.

my LFS had a couple of these in today too...i was shocked and they are beautiful.. they also wanted $20 for a 3 inch baby.. i am trying to talk my husband into it.. we had to hurry today because we had food in the car..:( so he did not get a chance to see him.. but if they still have it i will get one!:D

I saw them at another LFS- apparenty it's a seasonal thing. I've decided to hold off on them.
