no, i don't think it could even catch the clowns if it wanted to.

if i added an emperor 400 filled with bio-balls or rubble rock could my current system support the moray addition...how much LR should i get to compensate for the moray...i have close to 20lbs right now...it would be just the clowns and moray to start...i may add the blue 'dori' tand aswell...i can get it at a smaller size to give me time to figure out the larger tank...what is the growth rate of the tang in question?

You would be suprised how much the sand in SW tanks acts as the bio. I had a couple tanks with just powerheads and sand and the bio was fine. If your on a tight budget i would not even worry about it, just add home made bio or extra bio you already have i the emperor 400. Otherwise i see no problem. I am not trying to be cruel here, but clowns and eels can take a lot of bad water quality. Just start slow, and build up to regular full feedings. You will then realize if you have little amonia spikes or not, but my guess is equal amount of sand gallon/lb ratio could run a tank with just flow.

So basically with you adding all of that stuff, and going slow with feeding, it should be more than enough.

growth rates on those tangs are kinda slow. They will get to 4 inches decently fast but then trail in growth for quite some time. I find buying it at any size wouldn't really matter as you would upgrade before he even needed it.

BTW rubble in canisters or powerfilters is 10x as good as bioballs.

a piece of pvc for the eel is always good, i think they are ugly so i buy lace rock cause its cheap and always great for making eel caves. As you noticed in my tank i have huge caves for my eel, yea if that was LR that would be 2,000$ peices. They are actually 50$ 200lb stack ups of lace. They are now live though and act like live rock :D

thanx for the info...could lava rock fill a bio nich in a salt tank aswell?...i have a few large chuncks of lava rock that are just sitting around and i have thought about putting them in even before the moray idea...

as to the moray...i talked to the wife about her buing it for my anivery give(one year she got a big cat for me)...i brought it up by saying i would use my gift card i got for my bday to buy 'dori' for the kids if she would get the eel for me...she thought about it(witch is a good sighn), but in the end laughed at me when i told her the price...i might be able to win if i tell her about the potential resale value...so i may be able to get it yet...

No to lava rock. That stuff breaks down in saltwater tanks. I hate that stuff, and am highly against using it for anything. People also say stuff about it leeching in SW messing up hardness etc, i would just say no. LR or lace rock, thats all i know to be safe and not leech anything. Lace rock looks like live rock after 2 months as i don't think lava ever could.

LoL already thinking about selling the eel? Come on man, that should be the last thing on your mind. Ah but good luck!

there is a member on reefcentral that is trying to get rid of his zebra..... not sure on size or how much he may want but may be an option.
