Zebra Obliquidens - Edumacate me on this guy

In proper name terms, I would forget that it was ever called an Zebra Obliquiden. j/k 
From what I read, the zebra obliquiden is thought to be extinct. Not sure exactly how true that is, or if a similar looking fish took over as the precise name.
It is an Astatotilapia latifasciata. Here is a link to give you a little more info. If you need any more info,just ask.

I just read something that said it was either extinct or very close in the wild. This is a very cool fish. It would be a shame if that were the case. Maybe I need to pick up some fems to put in with this guy...I don't think I will have to worry about cross breeding with any of my peacocks or Mbuna so I should be in good shape to try to get them to breed in a community tank and transfer them to something just for them once they have paired off....
Yes it will hybrid with mbunas I have one and it bred with my male eyebiter or a peacock i cant tell, These guys are from lake kyorga above victoria. They are mouth brooders i only have one and she has a mouth full of babies, i didnt think that they could cross but they can. Im not really sure what if any babies will look like. My peacocks bred alot but the eye biter insures that i dont get any unwanted babies. This is a cool fish, Sort of aggressive, mine likes greens, but not algae. Must be a plant eater in the wild.

I think I will wait for the male to grow out a little before I add any fems then. Hopefully they will be attracted to a male of their species before a male of other species...
Adding more of the same species is the 2nd best way to decrease the chances of hybridization. The 1st....Species only tank. They are great fish. I have a few of them myself. Be careful which ones you buy if you get any more. There are a couple of these guys that look similar, but they are not the same. Most of all....Have fun!
