Your fish is indeed a parrot pacu, Ossubtus xinguensis. Very interesting and beautiful Serrasalmid fish, in what is considered a monospecific genus.
The fish that is the subject of this thread IS a Metynnis, a genus currently including 14 species.
I am now uncertain whether Wes was stating that it is not a Metynnis. Hopefully that is not the case.
The issue as I understand it is whether it is a variant of Metynnis fasciatus, or a different species in the same genus. I am inclined to think it is a variant of fasciatus, but I have not seen it before, and don’t know more than Wes or have seen more than the pictures shown in this thread.

the original poster's fish, which has stripes resembling M. fasciatus, but has beak like ossubtus, that is why I coined the term tiger parrot pacu. The mouth structure is not like that of any metynnis sp. but more similar to mylesinus sp.
