Young fish might lay 7-10 viable eggs max. Mature established breeders can have been shown to throw 15+ viable eggs and it doesn't take 6 months to reach 1" unless that person is just doing it all wrong. should take roughly 3 months to reach 1"

Big investment. If you want to breed them, then prepare to have at least a colony of 6-7 in a 40 gal long tank. The only compatible fish that I found would not compete for food are guppys. Good thing, adds some color to the tank.

Some people put rummy nose tetras in the tanks with their zebras as both dithers and indicators of water quality.
