Hello, great site an I hope this is the correct thread location for this. Before my question(s) ill list my set up first to make replies more accurate and I thank you in advance for any replies.

tank-75 gallon reef ready drilled (capped off)

filtration- as stated the tank is drilled and the corner is portioned off for stand pipes.i removed the stand pipes, capped off the bulkheads, drilled a 1 inch hole at the bottom and installed a quiet one water pump(997gph) on the fish side of the plastic wall that portions off the stand pipe area.the pump pulls water down through approx a gallon of 15-30 ppi sponge clippings, an angelPlus active sponge filter(roughly 4 in dia x 4 inches),which is sandwiched between 2 -3 inch thick 50 ppi sponge filters ,tightly fitting the portioned off side top and bottom.

tank inhabitants- 2- 1 inch Buttikoferi. no plants, ceramic tile bottom, and 2 pieces of mopani driftwood.

My tank has been set up for 4 days.ive fed them roughly 3 or 4 times a day a decent amount as they are beastly little eaters.
My question is this. This morning I checked the water parameters (API test kit) and found 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate. Beings the angelplus active filter is seeded and ran on an established tank for 1-2 months, shouldn't there have been a noticeable nitrate reading or did I check the params too soon? Again thank you for any replies!

for the nitrate test, many including me have been guilty of not doing it right. can you please explane exactly how you do it?

Thanks for replying. I added 5 ml of water to the vile, added 10 drops of solution 1,giving it a few shakes then shook solution 2 and shook it very hard for a minute. then added ten drops to the vile and shook that for another minute. waited 5 mins and looked at the results next to the chart. it read 0.

with Nitrate test you need to shake the solution violently prior to adding...

I shook it pretty hard but ive heard solution 2 can settle and get sludgy on the bottom.Ill wait a few more days and try it again, shaking it like I'm trying to kill it and report back results.

yup, solution bottle#2 got the piss shook out of it for a good 2 minutes before adding the ten drops to the test vile, you are doing that right.

Thank you for responding and not copping attitude for asking, :)
