This. Too much ammonia inhibits bacterial growth. At the limit, it will kill the bacteria.
Sure, the stuff is pretty toxic. I'm not saying dump a whole bottle of ammonia in and see what happens. I'm just saying in my experience a bit more didn't seem to hamper the cycle. It's certainly not in the directions but I can't imagine dosing for seven days makes it a healthy environment for fish either, so I'd rather have a larger bioload if I'm adding something like seven discus. I guess realistically you can't expect directions set for tank size to properly predict the bioload however so it might be a moot point. I suppose you could just as easily dose closer to a 75, but I'm not sure that would work if it is highly related to water volume.
