Hello, I currently am cycling my 125g (4ftX2ftX25”) and planning to do a heavier planted tank with the attempt of a dwarf hair grass carpet over sand.

When I was buying plants my local fish store has a 700g tank with a fire eel that’s close to 30” and never kept eels before, but fell in love

I plan to stock angels, a schooling terra(possibly rummy nose) and Cory’s.

My question is has anyone kept zig zag eels or even a peacock eel with smaller bottom dwellers like Cory’s?

I wouldn’t do a zig zag in that size tank, but a peacock or a half banded spiny would be a good option and unlikely to bother the cories.

I still have more research to do? Thank you. It seems every site is different and no same species eel matches what they list. I’ve found peacock eels 12-14” and zig zag 6-8” which is why I was thinking of going with the semi smaller eel

That’s accurate for peacocks (M. siamensis), but the zig zag size sounds more like the half banded - M. circumcinctus (which gets to 8 inches).
The zig zag (M. armatus) gets over 20 inches.

Awesome thank you, so peacock eels are what I will be researching for sure. I may have to add more sand in the tank for it as if they burrow down they will most likely hit the dirt substrate underneath

Looks like a peacock to me.
Keep in mind that these guys won’t really take to flaks and pellets well and will need to be fed meaty foods like mysis shrimp and bloodworms.

Awesome! That’s the route I’m going to go then, I’m going to lower the tank and add another inch of sand before I purchase one. As I have some places an inch-2” now
