Zika Virus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
flue like symptoms, only 1 in 5 persons effected will come down with any, most cases clears itself up. there is a suggested link to birth defects. this has not been proven, also a very small chance of causing paralysis, same as with any virus.

all in all much ado about not allot to worrie about.

yes, the media, they love to stroke the hysteria. phrases "Zika has exploded on the world" worse bugs out there than this one. and just like malaria in this country that use to be rampid just not going to be an issue here with the way we manage those pesky little blood suckers. and even if it is, its just not that nastie of a bug.

Just watched the morning news mention of this and they touched on the risk of possible birth defects...showed a few Brazilian babies who were born with very small heads.

Thought it was only transmitted by mosquito. Smh something they arent telling us or they dont know jack about this bug.

Hello; The effect on fetal brain/skull development is suspected. There will likely be other effects as more cases show up. Let us hope the situation is that not so much is known about the virus as yet and not information being witheld.

Back to the ebola. I recall a long discussion on this forum. Some of us were calling for travel bans and quarantine of medical staff comming back from the affected areas of Africa. I was one of them.
I also recall being chided for my views and the experts explaining how they had an understanding of how the virus worked. Forward a few months and we find that ebloa persists in the eyeball of the infected and in the male reproductive organs. I believe there is one case where the ebola was transmitted by sexual contact not to long ago. At the least it seems the window for transmission of the ebola is much longer than what was being practiced at the time.
