As stated, the fish maxes out in most aquariums at around 14"...but like all fish will continue to grow throughout their life. They are extremely aggressive toward con specifics. I started out with seven and was left pretty quick with one. The fish is omnivorous...but does enjoy a protein meal (raw shrimp or scallops is what I feed mine).

It's one of the nicest Paratheraps/Vieja type fish in my collection. Here's mine at 14".

Thanks Mo. Your Zonatum is the best out there and is really the only reason I'm even getting some. Do you feed anything other than shrimp or scallops to help bring out the vibrant blue coloration?

I use Xtreme Aquatic foods in all of my tanks. The color, I believe, in any of these fish is due more to clean water and large frequent water changes.

Had a wild caught pair, for some time but the male turned out to be the most agressive,he killed his mate, and damn near ebery thing else in the tank. Dont think it is a good idea to put them with the argentea, both will be to aggresive in the long run. basically they both are large bullies. A bonded pair would be even worse for the other fish. best thing to do is keep a spae tank with a divider ready

Thanks for info buddha. Ultimately, the goal will be to only have the Z's in there. I plan on removing the Argentae and Synspilum immediately after acclimating. Would you recommend any dithers to sway the male Zonatum's aggression?
