This does fit the criteria mammal last of it's genus and from Asia.
The Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), also known as the Andean Bear and locally as ukuko, jukumari or ucumari is the last remaining 'short-faced' bear (subfamily Tremarctinae) and the closest living relative to the Florida spectacled bear[2] and short-faced bears of the Middle Pleistocene to Late Pleistocene age.

Are we thinking of the same spectacled/andean bear? Because the bear I'm thinking of isn't found in Asia..
