ZZAPP!!! be careful...

GFCI protected power strips are fairly cheap if one takes the time to source them out, beyond ignorance there's really no excuse not to be using one.

I've been meaning to get off my butt and at least do this. I'll check out one of those socket boxes Oddball posted and also that grounding probe. I often have puddles mixing with wires :/ I was thinking about having my tank plug outlet changed out to a waterproof 3 prong. If I'm not mistaken, they also use an interrupter like what's found in the socket box.
Clean install Mudd! ;)

If you want to make things really simple, and really cheap, pick up a GFCI receptacle and replace the outlet on your wall that's supplying power to your entire set up. Done deal, everything is protected by a single GFCI receptacle. If you want to add a few $$ into the circuit, buy an industrial grade or hospital grade GFCI. You can even swap it back to the regular receptacle and take the GFCI with you when you move.

Money is not an issue gents, no matter how broke ass you may be. If you can afford to feed your fish, you can afford to potentially save a life, and that life may end up being yours. :)

In my earlier days I didn't pay attention to things like this and had a tank that would 'splash' a little water out over time. It finally was enough to to spark an extension cord and catch on fire, which also caught the carpet on fire, but that carpet was actually so wet from the 'splash' over time it put itself out.

When I got home from work the house was a little smoky. I went back a redid every cord in the house. I keep the extension cords off the ground. I made sure all the wires went to an up position to plugged in so moisture would not build up on the power strips
