If your thinking of going tropical, yeah piranhas are obviously aggresive but their ugly. In my opinion, red devils are the all out meanest fish, and a beautiful fish at that. They pick on everyone with no stopping. He ate my oscar in half simply because he was the only threat in the tank. He lives will with plecos and irridescent cat fish. Probably because he could never catch them.

well man if your looking for whats more aggresive fresh or salt, it would be fresh hands down, Ive seen some big freshwater *******s. Unless of course you planning on gettin a baby great white in a temporary 280, then that would be a different case. :22_yikes:

can i put them 2gether?
when they r small.. but still risky
Octopus
Triggers are hit or miss on nasty.
I had a 5+" undulated that was a big baby.(Housed with a 46+" Green Moray)
A friend has a yellow tang that will KILL ANYTHING in the tank with him, doesn't make him scary. A friend has a huma that bites spiny box fish, porcupine puffers, groupers.
I'd engineer a foul tempered octopus.......

octo's r cool but hard to care for
and on the down side most only live a year!!! sux huh :headshake
Dino88
07-25-2005, 4:13 PM

Mattcomptonassvanhorn
07-25-2005, 4:29 PM
If there adults Im going to have to give you a hell no, but if they are juveniles you might have chance.
Dino88
07-25-2005, 4:32 PM
:) ok how bout if they grow up 2gether?
how bout if i got 2 eels and a clown trigger?
is that a good pred tank or no?
u got any better ideas?
Mattcomptonassvanhorn
07-25-2005, 4:37 PM
Im not saying you cant do that. What I am saying is that adults are morre predatory and they will not get along, so what I am saying is that if you want more than one fish in there you have got to start out young. :headbang2
Mattcomptonassvanhorn
07-25-2005, 4:49 PM
If you want to see some aggresiv salt beasts then you should whatch thepacks video :headbang2 :headbang2
Dino88
07-25-2005, 4:49 PM
so if i get a trigger 2 eels and maybe a lion fish....as babies ,when they get older everything should be ok?
oh and r they the only preditory fish u can keep in a 280 gallon?
thx

You can put the lionfish in at any time Ive done that and Ive never had any probs putting an adult lion in a tank of monsters. The fish are a little smarter than you might think. But on the other ones start young and take you time. Ill try to get you a list of badass fish you can then add later.

ALL you got to understand is that as longas your next addition is same size if not larger than the fish already in there you will be all right.

Do you want fighters or eaters, if eaters try inshore lizard fish, fast ambush predators that dart up from the bottom and eat fair size fish, triggers are fighters, they harrass other fish to death like puffers will. according to the books the worst thing to stick in with a trigger is another trigger.

yes sir
i just got a 240 gal
i want to put a monsta fish in it
what would be cool
i was thinkin
a bumble bee grouper (marine)
wat u think?
it's going to go in the store!
piranha45
07-26-2005, 3:27 PM
you apparently didn't hear what happened to the "freshwater" grouper that was raffled off here a couple weeks earlier; it DIED a few days after shipping. Definitely a "freshwater" fish, alright :headshake I knew such a thing couldn't exist.
As for my 2 cents, I'd stock it with a Queen or Titan trigger, and then a handful of pseudos/damsels. A miniatus grouper would be cool too, though.

i have sold several sw bumble's
and they all were fine. :screwy:
queen sounds cool

Well, looks like the books are wrong, what did I expect from a book titled " SALTWATER FOR DUMMIES"?

I know a lot of people that house triggers together when they're small, but once they get around 4 to 5 inches they attack each other non stop. Keeping more than one trigger in a tank just isn't a good idea no matter what size they are.

I would have to agree, Triggers are FAR prettier and have more personality than a piranha. Not to mention the fact that you can hear them break bones when they eat their prey. Saltwater Hands down has much more beautiful and aggressive fish.
