    Tilapia buttikoferi

Mine did fine in a community tank until he reached 4-5". Killed everything. He's now in a 75 by himself, and is doing quite well. Loves moving gravel, rocks, and heaters around. They are def my favorite cichlid. Tons of personality. Never bred them, but a large tank with the number you...

    Buttikofferi

Buttikoferi do fine with other fish until they reach around 5-6". After that it's a gamble; even in a 180. If you want to do a pair in a 180, that should work.

    Buttikoferi Feeding.

Mine ate bloodworms, earhtworms, and chunks of raw fish(frozen tilapia!). They also love green peas(frozen/thawed). You can expect about an 1" a month growth, so feed them well!

    Cichlids and Feeder fish??

Feeders have been more problems than any good they could bring. I use a good quality pellets supplimented with insects and earthworms, and occassional frozen foods(fish and shrimp).

    jag and dovii

You have two fish that are very aggressive by nature. If you put them in at the same time and when their small you run a better chance of it working. Personally I think Dovii's should be kept by themselves or in a pair in a tank by themselves. With an "average" male size of 20"-24" you could...

Do fish need to eat everyday?

Since we don't "need" to eat every day, neither do fish. In fact occassional "fasting" is good for them and your tank.

    Which to get rid of

Biggest prob I see is that some of those fish are fast growers, and some are slow. That could spell trouble!

    A wonderful gift today

Innes' and Axelrod's books were the one's I read in the library as a kid. I am the obsessed fish-keeper I have become, thanks in part to their masterful works. Congrats!

Food for my Midas Red Devil hybryid

Nuchal hump size is hereditary plus lots of food(it's mostly fat). I feed mine earthworms, crickets, and chunks of frozen/thawed Tilapia; along with the pellets. If you go with trying to force growth you're going to have to pay closer attention to water quality(ie, more frequent changes).

    Fresh fry!

If the tank has plenty of cover(rocks, driftwood) and algae growth you should be able to raise a few fry. So leave them with their parents. Good luck!

    Tilipia Ruweti

It's always fun to watch the parents move around with their fry! Ruweti are good parents, but you are always going to loose a few fry by keeping them in a community tank. If this is their frist brood I would keep them in the tank with the parents.

    10 Gallon Plant

Some "Amazons" grow over 24" high, there are smaller varities so I would try to find them. Good luck!!
