About 6"+... and np, a lot of people don't update to say eithr the fish died or they gto rid of it ect. regret getting rid of him but we've had to cut our tanks down to less then 1/2 these past few monthes. and another species tank for a 2' just isn't in the cards for us atm.

I ended up selling this guy as he started getting very aggressive and we've been going a different route w/ our tanks. But during the few months we had him he was very hardy and ate very well for us ( live blackworms, and occasionally NLS thera A.) I would def get these guys again in the future...

Picked up another one today! about the same size from the same distributor via our lfs.. >.< does look very similar but looks like it may have patterning on its face and heads abit longer looking not so bulldoggish... atm they are playing nice and he may just be stressed ect. So will see if...

Because you can't have just one... I am an oddball junky and I know I have an obsession... but I'm stearing away from the giants as having to take-down our big set-up has been heart breaking. Bigger the fish the more expensive to house... before kids we had a lot of fish of different species...

Yes, and they often do in the wild but only a handful reach 24" in captivity. the average tends to be closer to 18-20"

long as its not super narrow a florida gar would be happy imo w/ that size ect. I would do a trio and make it a species tank or at least only select 1-2 other tank-mates ( such as bichir) and call it a nice set-up day.

gill flukes come to mind or dissolved oxygen may be low. increasing flow may help. or he may still just be stressed. hard to say.

I use to think spending that kinda money on a betta was crazy... but now I know I'm crazay spending much more then that on other species that are a lot more expensive to also maintain and not even breedable in captivity ( as of yet at least!) >.< now.. when our cujo ( he's like 4-5yrs now)...

I wouldn't keep any gar in that set-up.. imo.. floridas are to darn passive to stand up.. and anything else is going to eat/kill tank-mates or be killed by the Jar when it hits 12"+ haven't kept a shorty... but I was able to find Cubans and tropical before shortys..
