????
Some owner of a fish store in Santa Barbara says gars are now legal in California. He said it started around the beginning of this year.Is this true?

I dunno. Every few years one of my local petstores decides to try carrying caimans, even though they're on my state's banned list.

i dont see any reason why gar are banned when most of the southern california native fish like trout are threatened by warmer weather and smaller winters as well as bass and stocked rainbow trout as well as overfishing some gar wont even survive here

I don't get how gar could be totally illegal when all my lfs carry them. If I ask them for snakeheads, pirahnas or asian arowanas they don't have them and I'm a regular at most of them.

Gars are still illegal in CA. Just because the LFS carry them, does not make them legal.

The reason Gar are illegal is because they will do very well there.
