Algae in a Planted Vieja Tank

And I can already tell ya before I test at tbe end of the week, nitrates are gonna be at LEAST 60 ppm. That's what the fish put in the water every week before I started dosing. I've been wondering about that--dose adding ferts like this have an adverse effect on tbe fish. This tank is pretty heavily stocked.

Just cut back on the nitrate. Your fish are saving you fert money

Thats what ive found in my tank. I dose once a week 1/4 tsp kno3, 1 tsp k2so4, and 1 tsp epsom salts.
Then I dose 1/2 tsp csm+b 2x a week. And a weekly 40% WC.

Nitrogen deficiency is easy to spot - yellowed leaves on mature leaves and transparent growth on new ones.

I would think 60ppm is the max I would go for nitrate.

The api test kit will work for nitrate but gets hard to read once its above 40 into the red. Could be 40 could be 80??

Friday, did a 75% WC, tap water has 0 nitrates. I checked nitrates again today, the test tube is red. So that's 40-80 ppm on my test kit. Because nitrates are higher than 30 ppm, I'm going to skip dosing KNO3 today, and just dose KH2PO4.

Did you read not to dose your iron (including csm) with phosphates?

You can still dose k2so4 instead of kno3

Think cutting KNO3 could leave me short on K? What's a good fert calculator. I can't get to the one on APC cause my login isn't working.
