Do you mean needle fish... yeah I've seen a couple of pics on the internet but never saw it for sale with an LFS.
im frm asia, i kept 3 gars in my house. so far, i hear nothing sch as ASIAN GAR before... GAR is GAR, y mst it be ASIAN GAR, or AMERICA GAR? lol.... for example, SONY PSP, ori frm JAPAN, they import to america and all around the world... We dont catogerize as AMERICA sony psp, or asia sony psp.. 
below is a list of true gars.Ture gars are native only to the Americas (North and Central)

Atractosteus spatula- alligator gar 6-10 '
Atractosteus tropicus- tropical gar 4'
Atractosteus tristoechus- cuban gar 6'
Lepisosteus osseus- longnose gar 6'
Lepisosteus platostomus- shortnose gar 2 1/2'-
Lepisosteus oculatus- spotted gar 4'
Lepisosteus platyrhincus- florida gar 4'
hybrid gars
Lepisosteus platostomus x Atractosteus spatula- Crocodile gar type I
Lepisosteus platyrhincus or oculatus x Atractosteus spatula-Crocidile gar type 2
Four known types exist both in wild and cultivated varieties:
Atractosteus spatula X Lepisosteus platostomus (Croc gar type I)
A. spatula X L. platyrhinchus (Croc gar type II)
A. spatula X L. oculatus
A. spatula X L. osseus
There is a strong possiability of A.spatula X A. tropicus from mexican aquacultured fish

note three fish all have different common names but in fact are the same species.
There are no true gars naturaly occuring in South America or Asia Hence not all fish reffered to as gars are truly gars-Anne
