Well my tig has finally developed the sea food bloat

I had loads of bass in the tank but sold them off as they wasn't for me

After 2 weeks the big tig ate so much mussel he can't seam to digest it

I will get a picture tomorrow

I have always said they seam to be able to digest sea foods over the size of 12" but it looks like I may have been wrong and they have problems digesting it at any size or age

Sorry to hear that and thanks for the heads-up, T1karmann. I hope your tig will bounce back.

Going back to our discussion of a possible bad actor - salt versus thiaminase (http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/help-with-tig-catfish.598702/ ), I must note that mussels are high in thiaminase and constipation is one of the prominent symptoms of vitamin B1 deficiency, as stated here http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/Thiaminase

Please, don't take this the wrong way. I am looking to learn from you and with you.

It was last week sometime after I sold all the bass I carried on feeding mussel and he ate 5 big bits
I have seen it before with smaller tigs but never a large one

If he starts spinning within the next few day then he's done

I hope so too
You can see it's not just the belly it's the whole fish
His body is 3 x the size of its head

It has always been a slim and slender fish but the last week of so he has been hitting mussel hard

Have you considered Epsom salt, through food, if it still feeds, or through bath? Such a pretty specimen.

I have had this same problem years ago with about 4 tigs below 12"
Epsom doesn't work
It's something the can't digest correctly in sea foods
After not passing it for a few days the toxins of old food make the whole body bloat

There is still hope until they get a swollen bit in front of the dorsal fin
