I lost my EBJD two days :( and now my 55gal tank look duller.

My present stocking:
4 albino XL corydoras
1 green x pumpkinseed female sunfish (not aggressive)
1 male kenyi cichlid (deformed jaws resulted into bulldog looking)
1 hard lipped barb

I dont have any lights for this tank so the fish has to be bright colored.

And I want a centerpiece fish (mostly likely cichlid) thats so bright colored. No cichlids from three largest lakes in Africa! No angelfish, no discus, no rams, no firemouth, no blood parrot and no flowerhorn. And Im not planning to breed.

Hmmm a bichir of some sort? Not a cichlid though.A few egyptian mouth brooders say 4 of them would be colourful enough

IMO unless your tank is getting quite a bit of natural light then nothing is going to brighten up your tank that much. i know of tanks that dont need a light but they are situated under huge skylights, in conservatories or next to massive windows. i would look at getting even one T8 tube running, thats what i have, and that will provide ample light then your brightly coloured fish will look brightly coloured.

Is there a reason why you don't have a light?

you missed the point. what i was trying to put across is that if your tank is in darkness, ie not getting much natural light as you dont have fake light, then it will be pointless getting a brightly coloured cichlid as you wont get to see the bright colours properly. hence you most likely wont achieve your desired effect.

but if your intent on doing it anyway then a jd as mentioned above.
