heres my homemade filter with homemade overflow it moves 1100 gallons an hour and could move much more this also works as an awesome baby catcher after i peut all the mechanical and biological media in the filter i had 10 cherry barbs and 10zebra danios to help get the biological filter going and they bred like hell now in the first chamber of my filter is a ton of both kinds of babys some are getting big too saved them from being aro food i guess

OK I'm in love with this overflow. So simple and effective!

A few questions, what size PVC piping do you need for a 6x2x2 (180g) overflow? And would one drain be sufficient for a 180g?

The sump is about 3x1.5x1 and the pump is rated at 4500LPH (about 1180gph)

I know it works for with 1" pipe, and I've heard its less effective with anything larger than 1 1/4" pipe. You can flow over 600 gph with the 1", so I would build 2 of them. It should only cost about 25 bucks to build both of them.

I read that aswell at the 3reef link, great informing read!

Too bad i wasn't smart enough to know to just build two of them when i read that they can flow 600gph and i need about 1200gph :banhim:

Thanks Rallysman for the pointer :)

He also added a one-way valve (dont know is that the correct word for it)
so it dont lose its prime.
