I guess ill just be that guy and say I don't like eheim. I had a classic and I thought it was a poor performer, especially for the price. I actually did have one of the quick connectors break by where the hose barb slips into the hose. It developed a slow leak and I caught it before it ruined anything. One day the motor quit pumping, it was only a couple years old. Some fish died.
I've Always had better Luck with fluval to be honest. And I really do like my sunsuns.
My best advice on the eheim is to buy a small power head like 200-300gph and fit it with a piece of hose (probably like 16mm or 5/8" for the 2217? I dunno) slip the intake strainer off and put the hose on there. That's what I did to prime my classic. Any little air pocket and the thing stopped dead in its tracks. Lowering the tank level so the spraybar is above the water helps with priming too.
Great construction, simple, and difficult to prime. I might give eheim another go sometime down the road as I suspect I got a lemon, but it really made a bad impression on me.
