I don't have fx5 but I have an fx6 and a 2262 on a 180g. I bought the 2262 used, and its several yrs old, the fx6 is new. The 2262 was my first eheim, I can now see where the eheim fanboys come from, I'll definitely buy more eheim canisters. I have 2 405's and the fx6 running in the house, the 2262 is quieter than all of them, and its so simple, there is so little to go wrong with it, its built tough, I'm guessing the new fx6 will not out last this used 2262.

I can relate, Skurj. I have a couple 405's and an FX5. Thought they were good filters till I bought 2 2262's. They are amazing filters and incredibly simple. I still like the 405's for small jobs but the FX is a pain to maintain. Plus when you clean it, tiny bits of stuff tend to jam the impeller so you get to wear it out trying to make it run. Count me as an Eheim Classic fanboy. Or fangrandpa?

I've never owned an eheim, heard good things about the 2262 and the fx5, I got a good deal on the fx5, after I install the fx5 I will add more to this thread and share my thoughts. This will be replacing my 406 and 2 h.o.b.s on my 120.

Installed the fx5 now, transfered all my bio media from my 406 into it with all the bio media that came with it, so far I like it, really quiet, one bad thing though, I bought it used and the previous owner didn't clean the hoses so when I plugged it in it blew a lot and I mean A LOT of junk into my tank.not fluvals fault.it has a serious flow. And now i dont have all the clutter from 3 filters in my tank.the fish seem to enjoythe extea current.so far so good
