Yes they do eat live from a young age I recommend Minnows that have been quarantined to prevent disease, as he grows older you can ween them off of live onto frozen fish fillets cut into strips such as Tilapia or Sole or whichever fish you find they enjoy the most. Mine eat Tilapia and silversides.

I usually quarantine live for a few days in a separate tank, really just as a precaution because Ive had friends just throw them in without problem.

Mine likes to eat shrimp, hikari floating pellets, blood worm cubes, and occasionally crickets.
