Nice! I've been thinking about doing this very same thing, but haven't been able to find the right thread pvc that would attach to a garden hoses' thread.......at least, at the local HD and Lowes by me.
These are usually in the area with in-ground sprinklers. Not all stores carry in-ground sprinkler goods. You also can check to see if there is a sprinkler supply company nearby. You will lant a adaptor to connect 3/4" garden hose thread male or female.

How do you gravel vac with these things?
These are essentially for quick water changes, but you can simply modify it by attaching an aquarium vacuum tube to it

Nice. Mine looks exactly like yours except for a red handle and a T on the output instead of an elbow. It helps split the flow up a bit.
