How can I setup my tank so it's not a burden on my parents when I go to collage?

i agree with with people saying if you personally cant take care of it then take it down but...
there is a solution if you have the time and money to spend on this.

1. drill holes for a emergency drain/ easy wc, large sump, closed loop system & chemical filter
reactor. have much turn over rate as possible. my goal is to get at least 15x or more on larger tanks.

2. plumb a automatic water changing system (7 state ro/di drip system) have it so it does a 100% wc
or more in 7 days ( 1 week ) . also plumb a water conditioning system to the drip system.

3. raise temps to 80 degrees and add air pumps/stones for efficient dissolved oxygen & add a uv filter
and achieve level 2 sterilization.

with everything above achieved and setup correctly you can literally sit back and enjoy the tank and only need to
feed it and clean out the filtration every month or so.

remember this is not cheap nor should a cheaper alternative be used unless you know what your doing 100%.
