Hi everyone,

after taking down the 2000 i’ve been planning the next build.

i’m going to do a 10x8 pond 30” tall out of 2x6 log cabin style. With a 3 (55 gallon) barrel filter on the other side of the wall for more pond space.

wednesday13 wednesday13 thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter do you think that will be strong enough to not need braces on top?

water level will be some where between 26-28” max.

Pics of the filter build. Barrel 1 will be a bog filter with 20-40 mangroves on top.
Barrel 2 will be a 55 gallon of k1 fluidized. Barrel 3 will be another bog filter to clarify the water more.

Happy to see round 2 💀🤙… im a sucker for braces lol… Never tried without. I had a 11’x7’ normal wall construction with one center brace doubled up… i did a few small 45’s in the corners also. Log cabin style, u might be able to squeak by without.

Interesting. I’m flexible on the water height i just really rather not have braces. I’m even debating a 24” depth. Not too sure how to do the math but based on sleeper ponds this seems like it should hold… famous last words

Has anyone used a calculator like this?

i have to wonder is 3/4” acrylic is standard for 30” tanks than 5.5” of wood should be at least as strong.

Im sure alot of things are overbuilt… fiberglass tanks usually have no bracing. Some do have outer supports ribbed into the walls. They do a similar style with ribbing on poly tanks with no top braces. If u want the open top look i say go for it. Like ur last build, u can always add onto it if needed. The wall of stacked wood and screws is not going to blow out by any means.

I don't know what it means so I assume cabin log style means 2x6 will be laid flat and hence 6 inches of wood will resist the pressure, not 2 inches.

I think I agree with the advices given above. 2x6 seems plenty strong, too strong for 10ft span and 8ft span.

Yes they will have interlocking corners flat on the 6” side. Like the previous build

I feel like it will be strong enough especially for the size. Fingers crossed!
